Who We Are : Josh Durr & Team Hawthorn
Growing up only a mile away from the Austin Nichols Distillery. Josh Durr has been immersed in spirit culture since as long as he can remember. Durr has been apart of the restaurant and bar business his entire adult life. With a resume that covers many influential east coast bars and restaurants over the years where he has gained a wealth of experience. His career spanning positions ranging from corporate casual, independent, fine dining, pubs, high-end lounges, and nightclubs.
Josh has done bartending stints in San Francisco, New Orleans, Cincinnati, Miami, Dallas, Louisville, & Orlando. With this range of experience Durr has the unique ability to understand a wide range of establishments beverage programs, and
subsequently his different clients unique needs. As an expert on cocktails, spirit distillation, and spirit history.
Durr has held the position of director of research and development for Molecular Bartending since 2006, overseeing all of the cocktail development and educational seminars. He has developed beverage and training programs for Brown Forman, Altamar Brands, Bulleit Bourbon, Cabana Cachaca, Skyy Spirits, Disney, Southern Wine & Spirits, Bacardi, Cameron Mitchell Group, Brinkers, Leblon, Moet Hennessey, The Cordish Company, Morton's, DSCUS, & Coca Cola to name a few. He was awarded in 2008 a
Rising Star Award by Cheers Magazine.
Josh has been featured in the publications such as ... The New York Times, Playboy, Forbes, Wine & Spirits, Wine Enthusiast, Flavor in the Menu, The Courier Journal, Velocity Magazine, Sante, Modern Bride, Dallas Magazine, Tasting Panel, Cheers Magazine, Chicago Magazine, Restaurant Hospitality, The Herald Leader, Hawaii Beverage Guide, LEO Magazine, & The Voice Tribune as well as many other important trade and print publications. Josh Has also been featured on the NBC affiliate WAVE with his cocktail demo’s. Durr and his team have also been featured at events such as The Aspen Food & Wine Festival, Cheers Conference, The Kentucky Derby & Tales of the Cocktail events.
You can find Josh and his team currently traveling the country doing consulting for on-premise locations for Molecular Bartending’s & Hawthorn Beverage’s growing client list. In 2010 Durr will be launching a multiple city development of bar training schools starting in the Midwest cities of Louisville & Cincinnati expanding the Hawthorn Beverage training wing of
the company. His test kitchen and training facility Hawthorne Beverage Labs is located in Louisville, Ky.
